Brief Description:

Major Percy Marlborough Stewart was an adventurer who was godson to the Duke of Marlborough and Second Cousin to Winston Churchill. He bought the Burnby Hall Estate in 1904 and in between travels he and his wife devoted their lives to creating beautiful gardens. When he died childless in 1962 he left the Gardens and his collections in trust for the benefit of the people of Pocklington.

Burnby Hall Gardens has been described as “a jewel in Yorkshire’s crown” and has been awarded the Yorkshire in Bloom Gold Award for seven years 2010-2016. They are home to a collection of over 100 varietes of the Hardy Water Lily. Within the Gardens is the Stewart Museum which is dedicated to the world tours and travels of Major Percy Stewart and the artefacts he collected along the way. There is a Registry Office in Burnby Hall. Assistance dogs are welcome
